Quitting cannabis after a year

Hi

I used edibles for a year for back pain. It really messed me up. I started to get psychotic episodes. Went cold turkey 14 days ago. I’m extremely emotional and cry a lot for no reason sometimes. Will it ever get better?

I also had the same withdrawal symptoms after going cold turkey from marijuana use. I was eating it, mostly, and was a fairly heavy user–every day. I was sweating at night, couldn’t sleep, my stomach hurt, and also started crying sometimes for no reason at all. I’ve been clean from marijuana sinc Mother’s Day weekend of 2025 and today I don’t cry like I did those early months and most of the other symptoms have disappeared, too. However, I still believe my brain chemistry is a little off still and I think giving myself time to heal and get all the neurotransmitters back in order will help me focus and get my motivation back. Sometimes I have to force myself to get motivated to get things done, but I am getting better. You will, too, but you have to stay off the marijuana. Otherwise, you will have to start all over again. Hope this helps.

Congrats on going cold turkey! I had to do the same 3 weeks ago after being high for 20 years. I joined recovery dharma, a recovery program for all kinds of addiction. It uses Buddhism to help (you don’t have to be Buddhist though). If you’re struggling, maybe you’ll find it helpful too. hugs

Since I started reading Dhammapada and doing workouts for the past 10 days, I feel like I have somewhat transformed into a new person. Still a lot of work to do though, but yes, Buddhist teachings do help. I was also addicted to masturbation, but now, I can’t even bother to think about it lol. Seems like a futile activity.
